Still Life, Still Alive

Flowers have long symbolized beauty, joy, and transformation. Traditionally linked to femininity and domesticity, they were often seen as delicate and transient. With this series, I revisit this saturated theme with a bold, contemporary lens—elevating it to one of strength, status, and timelessness. Centering on dahlias from my own garden—symbols of strength and dignity—I aimed to capture their grandeur in compositions that honor the Old Masters while remaining modern and personal. Light and shadow create depth, contrast, and movement, while geometric compositions, rich textures, and vibrant colors give the works a striking, theatrical presence. By transforming this traditionally feminine-coded subject into something vivid and powerful, I bridge past and present, pushing the expressive boundaries of the still-life tradition.
